Releases New Album + Video

Vest’s self-titled recording set for release digitally April 6 and in-stores April 20 on Cordova Bay Records

For Immediate Release: March 22, 2018 (Victoria, BC)  - Multiple-award winning boogie-woogie blues piano player David Vest is set to release his newest, self-titled album on Victoria, BC’s Cordova Bay Records digitally on April 6 and in-stores on April 20. Vest is also releasing a new live video for the track “Crocodile” recorded live at Blue Frog Studios.

Although he now lives in Canada, David Vest is an authentic, Southern-bred boogie-woogie piano player, blues shouter and world-class entertainer. Born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1943, David grew up in Birmingham near Tuxedo Junction. It’s easy to understand why blues history courses through Vest’s veins, who opened for Roy Orbison on New Year’s Day 1962, went on to jam with Ace Cannon, Bill Black’s Combo, and the Jimmy Dorsey Band, as well as share the stage with Big Joe Turner.

Vest was named Keyboardist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards in 2016 & 2017. His first Canadian recording, East Meets Vest, was named one of the best blues albums of 2012 by Holger Petersen of CBC’s Saturday Night Blues and earned a Maple Blues nomination for Recording of the Year while his 2014 album Roadhouse Revelations received critical acclaim from reviewers around the world, including a four-star rating from Downbeat and hit number one on the Roots Music Report chart for Canada.

Unlike Vest’s previous Canadian albums, which were recorded in Toronto, his upcoming self-titled release was recorded on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The project reunites Vest with his old friend Peter Dammann, Chicago-born guitarist from the Paul deLay Band and a member of the Oregon Music Hall Of Fame. Blues fans will recognize the name of drummer and co-producer Billy Hicks from his days with Powder Blues, but the inspired playing of Ryan Tandy on upright bass will be a revelation, dubbed by Vest as "my secret weapon." Winnipeg native Tom Bowler, David's regular guitarist, rounds out the band. The album was recorded live-off-the-floor, with live vocals and minimal overdubs or retakes.

To celebrate the new release, Vest and his band will be on tour throughout Canada this spring and summer, starting with his Album Release Party at Hermann’s Jazz Club April 7.
